Hope Town

Hope Town is the Bahamas best kept secret. The charming village is small enough for those who truly want to get away from it all, while sophisticated enough for the most discerning traveler. Though casual, Hope Town remains an exclusive destination, with friendly and welcoming local residents.

We’ve stayed in luxury properties all over the world, and in numerous houses on Hopetown, and this is by far our favorite.

To begin with, the location cannot be beat. Sea Life is on the lee side of the island, overlooking the Candy striped Lighthouse, and Marsh Harbor. My kids loved that they could stumble out of bed and walk right down to the water – and the water is calm. We’ve stayed in houses on the ocean side, but it’s so rough over there, and I’m afraid to let my children swim when it’s rough. Being on the lee side is much nicer, and the ocean it’s a short walk across the road. The best of both worlds!

The owners of this house clearly thought of everything. It’s luxurious and comfy at the same time. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and there is space for us all to spread out. My children loved the bunk rooms and the ping-pong table, and I loved sitting on the deck with a drink in hand, just watching the water. For those who like to cook (like me) the kitchen has everything. Many rental houses skimp on the kitchen, but not here. There hasn’t been one time when I wanted something that wasn’t supplied. I can easily see getting a few families together for a holiday. The four master bedrooms and bunk rooms offer plenty of accommodation, and the open plan lends itself to large groups.

We took the bikes into town a few times, which is a surprisingly short ride, and a nice one at that. We had privacy, but we’re not so far away, like on the south end of the island, that we can ride into town for a quick shopping trip or meal.

And I have to thank the owner Karina for telling us about ‘floating’ at the end of the day. The children and I get on a ‘noodle’ and float in the water outside the house at sunset – and it’s heaven.

I can’t say enough good things about Sea Life and the experience. It’s truly magical.

Sea Life lends itself to multi-family reunions. Downstairs is a kids oasis with bunks, games and a big TV. The upstairs suites give parents privacy and comes with beautiful views. The main floor has a gourmet kitchen, open living spaces that leads to and amazing outside deck. We had a 5 family reunion at Sea Life and I could not have asked for a better house.

The house had all the fun toys needed. The beach was right off the deck so the kids could play in the water and we could keep an eye on them. There was a lot of fun ocean life with every step. The house was on the north part of the island but you had easy access to the rest of the island. I though the bikes were the best way to get around.

We spent a week at Sea Life – our group was a total of 17 people with a mix of adults and kids. Sea Life provided a special experience for everyone! For the adults who wanted to relax, we had the crystal blue water and soft white sand a step from the house. We read our books or just laid on the sand. With a kayak and paddle board under the porch, those who wanted a bit more adventure headed out into the water for some fun, exercise and site seeing. In addition, there was snorkeling right in front of us where we saw conch, star fish and a little further out were the beautiful Caribbean fish and lobsters.

As a big group, were had more than enough room. The coupes had their own bedrooms and the kids piled into the lower level and enjoyed their bunk beds, the ping pong table and the large screen TV. We all enjoyed watching sunsets right out the back and cooked our dinners on the grill on the porch.

Since Sea Life is on the north end of the island, we enjoyed the quiet, remote atmosphere. The golf cart provided quick access to town, but most of us enjoyed the nice walk.

This was a great get-a-way for our group and we look forward to going back!
